About the team

The School of Biomedical Sciences is one of five schools within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.  The School comprises six divisions, including Cancer Biology, Cardiovascular and Respiratory Health, Infection and Immunity, Genetics, Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, and Pharmacology.

The school enables researchers from diverse fields to conduct research on common themes from basic and applied sciences and is currently seeking to build on the genetic work currently undertaken at UWA on the genetic basis human diseases.

The establishment of the “Division of Cancer Biology” is in recognition of the significant burden cancer places on society and the cutting-edge developments in our biological understanding diagnosis, monitoring and management. The Faculty will expand its profile in translational areas of cancer. The School is already active in applied and translational cancer research and has made significant achievements.

About the opportunity

The University of Western Australia is expanding its capability in Translational Oncology to enable the application of scientific discoveries into clinical practice with the aim of improving outcomes for patients with malignant diseases. You will undertake teaching, research and research supervision, contributing to the academic environment of the School and collaborating with other staff within the Faculty and with other “discovery research” scientists, clinicians and industry.

With expertise in cancer research already gained through a post-doctoral position, the School will provide further high quality post-doctoral training and supervision in the Division of Cancer Biology. Therefore, you will be well supported, provided with professional development and mentored to gain independence to establish your own area of cancer research. You will bring expertise that enhances the current research activities in the Division which include the genomic basis of cancer, blood-based monitoring and development of prognostic tools to predict patient outcome.
