  • Full time teaching and research, tenurable appointment.
  • Salary range:  Lecturer Level B $97,310 - $115,350 p.a. or Senior Lecturer Level C $118,957 - $137,000 p.a. plus employer contribution to superannuation of 17%.

About the team

The UWA School of Agriculture and Environment is a comprehensive, research-intensive school that spans the broad disciplines of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, and Geography and Planning. The University is located in one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots and the state of Western Australia has over 20,000km of coastline adjoining the Indian and Southern Oceans, and a wealth of marine and natural resources. Research and teaching within the School benefits from a network of national and international collaborators with a strong track record in PhD supervision and external research grant success. Our GIS and Remote Sensing team focuses on a range of applied topics including the built environment and health, urban and regional planning, international development, environmental management, and agriculture.  

About the opportunity

Working in our truly world-class School, Faculty and University, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our teaching offerings and research in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing.

In this position, you will be expected to grow our teaching at undergraduate level and in the Master of GIS and GIS specialisation of the Masters of Environmental Science program.

With your core expertise in spatial analysis in an area such as physical geography, environmental science, agricultural science, international development, and urban and regional planning, you will teach undergraduate and postgraduate units (classes) in GIS, remote sensing, spatial statistics and spatial programming. You will also be expected to engage in the supervision of postgraduate research students and perform high quality tutoring, practicum coordination and unit coordination.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • PhD in Geography, Environmental Science, Agricultural Science or a closely related field, with a focus on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or Remote Sensing.
  • An outstanding research track record, relative to opportunity, in the area(s) of; GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis of physical or build landscapes and processes, spatial statistics, or geovisualisation;
  • Commitment to excellence in research, with strong potential for attracting external competitive funding for their research program;
  • Evidence of involvement and willingness to direct and supervise the research of honours and postgraduate coursework and research students, and higher degree research (Masters and PhD) students.
  • Ability to design and deliver teaching across a broad spectrum of topics in GIS and Remote Sensing including spatial statistics and spatial programming.

About you

With your collegiate approach to working you will build effective links and strong relationship with internal colleagues across the University as well as with relevant industry and funding bodies outside of the University. In this position you will be expected to demonstrate capacity, innovation and impact in developing and deriving high quality teaching and research with specific reference to GIS and remote sensing. You will also demonstrate evidence of teaching spatial statistics and spatial programming in the area of GIS and remote sensing.
