About the team

The Structural Biology lab consists of around 20 research staff and students, with excellent infrastructure provided by the Protein Production and Structure Facility, Biomolecular Interactions Facility, UWA’s Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA), and regular access to the Australian Synchrotron. Located in the Bayliss Building, the School of Molecular Sciences is a large, research intensive School with over 100 staff, 100 PhD students and more than 600 undergraduate students.

About the opportunity

In research led by Professor Charlie Bond and Dr Archa Fox as joint Chief Investigators, this position will require a proactive and independent researcher to carry out research on the structural biology of protein: nucleic acid interactions, with a focus on gene regulatory complexes in humans.

With a PhD qualification in structural biology, this position will have responsibilities such as coordinating research experiments and interpreting results, developing research activities, supervising students in the laboratory as well as publishing academic papers to a high international standard and writing competitive research grants.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant degree and Ph.D. qualification in structural biology or closely related field
  • Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification
  • Significant experience with methodology for characterisation of protein structure by one or more of crystallography, SAXS, TEM or NMR. 
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills

About you

As a highly motivated and passionate postdoctoral researcher in the field of structural biology or closely related field, you will have enthusiasm to carry out research experiments and activities both independently and as part of a team. Prior experience with methodology for characterisation of protein structure by crystallography will be highly considered.
