 About the team

The Australia India Institute (AII) was established at Melbourne University in 2008 to be a national centre of excellence on India-related matters. Since its establishment, the Institute has exercised significant influence on in reshaping and developing relations, perceptions and scholarship opportunities between the two countries.

UWA has recently signed an agreement to host a UWA-AII Affiliate Centre. The existence of the UWA-AII Centre (the only India-focussed centre in WA), the research produced by these positions, and the ability of the UWA-AII Centre ability to provide authoritative comment and policy input on India-related issues will help build vitally important India expertise in the University and the state.

About the opportunity

The University of Western Australia wishes to appoint two Post-Doctoral Research Associates also known as Next Generation Network Scholars to undertake research related to contemporary India as part of the broader research efforts of the AII. The Scholars will assist in the research initiatives of the AII in collaboration with the Director and CEO of the AII, Professor Craig Jeffrey; and may be appointed to any area within the university, and will be placed in a school appropriate to their discipline.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

Essential:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of contemporary Indian affairs
  • A developing research profile as demonstrated by publications and other research outputs
  • Demonstrated capacity for collaborative research
  • Interest, knowledge and exposure to India and Indian affairs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching

Desirable:

  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development
  • Experience in public speaking and engagement
