The Exams Team at the University of Western Australia are recruiting for casual Exam Supervisors to assist our Exams Team in providing the best possible environment for UWA students to sit their exams.
The Exams Team is part of Student Life and is responsible for administering all centrally administered exams. UWA Semester Exams run at 9am and 2pm Monday to Saturday for a 2-week exam period for both Semester 1 and Semester 2. Rostering of exam supervisors will be between 0745 to 1135 and 1245 to 1620.
Exam Supervisors at UWA play a key role in ensuring our exams sessions are run consistently, professionally, and seamlessly.
As an Exam Supervisor you will be responsible for following established procedures for monitoring students, including assessing, and responding to instances of misconduct, room set-up, verification of student identity, and distributing, collecting, and reconciling completed exams papers.
Key responsibilities/Duties:
- Ensure good working knowledge of and compliance with UWA examination rules and procedures including completing compulsory training.
- Set up, monitor, and pack down exam sessions in accordance with the established UWA procedure, including specific materials and instructions for each exam, as directed. Manual handling and lifting will be involved, trolleys are provided.
- Communicate key information such as exam rules and regulations to students.
- Attending to students’ needs promptly and escorting them during the examination as required.
- Report any examination or student related incidents according to the procedures detailed in the UWA Exam Invigilator’s Handbook.
- Adhering to policies and procedures related to the conduct of exams, understanding and complying with the UWA policies and procedures that govern the conduct of university employees.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of exam supervision at UWA.
Knowledge, experience, and skills required:
- Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to read instructions aloud in clearly spoken English.
- Demonstrated interpersonal sensitivity and the ability to deliver high quality student-focused service in a stressful and at times high-pressure environment.
- Requires physical fitness and mental alertness to ensure consistent provision of exam facilitation which involves standing & walking for several hours at a time, navigating various exam venues, including some venues that are tiered with stairs.
- Proven flexibility and adaptability to a dynamic & complex service environment with a diverse range of tasks.
- Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures as required.
- Demonstrated digital literacy and computer skills are essential for this role. The UWA Exams Office primarily communicates via email, so prompt and professional email correspondence is needed. Applicants must be able to use the basic functions such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and be comfortable with all email functions, including sending, receiving, and managing communications with our team. The role also requires regular use of UWA's specific online systems. This includes; providing your availability via UWA online forms and the UWA Exams Portal, checking and agreeing to your work roster through the portal, completing mandatory online training modules.
Desirable:
- Experience within a similar role at a University or school.
- Ongoing Casual availability during UWA examination periods in May/June and October/November.
Remuneration:
- The general casual hourly rate is $32.57, Level 2, Step 01 (rate effective as of 14 July 2025).
- In addition, Casual rates for professional and general salaries incur a 25% loading, plus employer superannuation contributions at the superannuation guarantee rate.
- Weekend penalty rates will apply for casual work conducted for Saturday exams.

The UWA Exams office requires a consistent pool of experienced invigilators that can commit to returning each Semester with further opportunities of ad hoc work.
