  • Base salary range: $104,243 – $115,661 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The UWA Policy Institute (UWA PPI) was launched in 2018. The Institute aims to maximise the translation of the University’s research for public policy impact in Western Australia, Australia, the Indian Ocean region and the Indo-Pacific.

The long-term goal is to position UWA as a go-to university for governments, corporates and NGOs in Western Australia, Australia, the Indian Ocean region and the Indo-Pacific, as the countries in this region continue to grow in influence and in importance to WA and to Australia.

The functions of the Institute include:

  • Providing thought-leadership and maximising the policy impact of UWA research in WA, Australia, the Indian Ocean region, and the Indo-Pacific;
  • Raising the profile among policy decision makers of existing UWA research activities which impact on WA, Australia, the Indian Ocean region and the Indo-Pacific;
  • Providing policy research translation services and support to UWA researchers across HASS and STEM disciplines; and,
  • Producing policy-focused commentary and research (applied/academic) on contemporary policy issues and problems at the local, state, national and international level.

About the opportunity

  • Provide high‑level administrative, research, policy and project support to the Director, exercising initiative and overseeing daily Institute operations.
  • Coordinate partnerships and stakeholder engagement across UWA, government, business and non‑profit sectors, supporting collaboration, events and strategic activities.
  • Assist in delivering and promoting the Pathways to Politics for Women program, including recruitment, reporting, funding applications, media support and policy research.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in public policy, politics, economics and/or cognate discipline(s).
  • Experience with policy research plus policy development, implementation, review and investigation within both academic and professional contexts.
  • Substantial experience of working with internal/external stakeholders – academic researchers, public servants, democratically elected officials from state and federal government; councillors, mayors and executive officers from local government.
  • Experience of assisting and/or applying for funding/grants for applied policy research and/or policy projects from philanthropic/NGO organisations plus local/state/federal government agencies.
  • Highly developed planning, organisational and governance skills to meet deadlines and deliver high quality outcomes.
