This position is based within the Laboratory Targeted Drug Delivery, Imaging and Therapy at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and is part of the UWA Centre for Medical Research. 

The group conducts preclinical evaluation of biologic therapeutics for the treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

About the opportunity

  • Maintain laboratory inventories of plasmid clones, bacterial cultures, cell lines, tissue samples, recombinant proteins, commercial biologics, and other research materials.
  • Perform recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterisation in accordance with laboratory requirements.
  • Receive, verify, and maintain commercially sourced proteins and biologics, including identity confirmation, quality control, concentration determination, purity and integrity assessment, stability monitoring, and appropriate storage.

About you

  • A Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Biomedical Science, or another closely related biological science.
  • Demonstrated experience in biomedical research, with sound knowledge of molecular biology, biotechnology, protein biochemistry, and cell biology.
  • Proven experience in recombinant protein expression, purification, characterisation, and quality analysis, including techniques such as affinity chromatography, FPLC, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and ELISA.
  • Experience in the handling, validation, quality control, and functional assessment of commercially sourced proteins and biologics is highly desirable.
  • Competency in mammalian cell culture techniques, including maintenance of primary and immortalised cell lines, aseptic technique, and cell-based functional assays.
