About the area

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Indigenous (DVCI) provides strategic leadership for Indigenous initiatives across The University of Western Australia. Through education, student support, research and community engagement, the Indigenous Portfolio works to advance opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, strengthen Indigenous participation in higher education, and support the development of future leaders.

The Indigenous Students Centre plays a vital role in creating pathways to university and supporting Indigenous students throughout their educational journey. Working closely with schools, communities and internal stakeholders, the team delivers programs and initiatives that encourage participation, improve access and create positive student outcomes.

About the opportunity

  • Coordinate and deliver outreach, engagement and recruitment activities for prospective Indigenous students, including school visits, regional travel, community engagement and presentations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, community organisations, prospective students and key university stakeholders to support Indigenous participation in higher education.
  • Provide high-quality advice, administrative support and student pathway information, including guidance on scholarships, accommodation, ABSTUDY and university entry options.

About you

  • Demonstrated experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, communities or educational initiatives.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with Aboriginal peoples, community organisations and external stakeholders, building trusted and productive relationships.
  • Knowledge of the Western Australian education system and Indigenous higher education pathways, combined with the ability to deliver workshops, presentations and outreach activities.
  • Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a strong customer service and community engagement focus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, supported by strong organisational, administrative and digital literacy skills.

Note: As part of the recruitment process, candidates will be required to complete declarations in accordance with the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence. A current WA Working with Children Check, and “C” class driver’s licence will be required by the successful applicant.
