  • Level 6, part-time appointment (0.5 FTE) on an ongoing basis
  • Base salary range: $87,460 – $92,430 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation

About the team

The SKA Observatory (SKAO) is an intergovernmental organisation tasked with building and operating the world’s largest radio telescopes. In order to fully exploit the scientific output of the immense amount of data flowing from the telescopes, the SKAO is working with science communities across the world through SKA Regional Centres (SRCs), which are nationally lead hubs that form the basis of a global compute and science support infrastructure.

AusSRC is Australia’s portion of this international network and has been funded – by the Australian Government through the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources (DISR) – $63 million from FY 2022/23 to 2030/31, to establish and build capability to support the Australian and international SKA science communities, thereby ushering in the next era of astronomical discovery and advanced data processing.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Curtin University, Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre, and The University of Western Australia (UWA) are the four foundation partners formally collaborating, through an unincorporated joint venture agreement, to support and develop the AusSRC into a long-term national facility. 

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under broad direction, develop and implement AusSRC’s communication strategy and its connection to external audiences through innovative and high impact events, educational activities, and an online media presence.

About you 

You will be an outgoing, strategically minded person, who is capable of working autonomously and within a team to develop a strategic plan and build on / develop outreach networks. You will proactively liaise with AusSRC stakeholders within and externally to AusSRC to deliver and realise the impact of AusSRC science to the community.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Substantial relevant experience in the design and delivery of STEM themed communications and outreach programs
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to adapt to different audiences, build relationships, persuade and influence stakeholders
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and ability to negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders to identify needs and deliver outcomes
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to develop, deliver and coordinate programs, events and activities
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines and the ability to think strategically and to map programs, events and activities to project objectives
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills such as word processing, presentation development, spreadsheets and databases, and website management
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative, problem solve, and work productively as part of a team

Note: Occasional weekend and/or after-hours work, and interstate travel may be required
