About the area

UWA's Optometry and Vision Science team provides exceptional hands-on experience through diverse work integrated learning opportunities across the state, nationally, and internationally. In Western Australia, students have opportunities in community eye clinics, corporate practices, and Aboriginal Medical Services in key locations like Geraldton, Broome, and Bunbury. Beyond the state, placements extend to major cities like Darwin and across Queensland, allowing students to engage with a wide array of patient populations. Internationally, placements are available in countries such as Vietnam, India, Hong Kong, and the United States, enriching the educational experience and preparing students to address vision care challenges in diverse cultural settings.

By integrating these extensive work integrated learning opportunities into the curriculum, UWA ensures that graduates are well-equipped with the practical skills and cultural competence needed to excel in the ever-evolving field of optometry, ultimately contributing to a work-ready health workforce tailored to the needs of Western Australia, including urban, regional, rural, and remote populations.

About the opportunity

  • Organize and manage work-integrated learning opportunities for optometry students, ensuring they meet educational and accreditation standards while promoting collaboration among diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate work-integrated learning experiences to ensure high quality and compliance with program standards, using student feedback and industry research for continuous improvement.

About you

  • Optometrist or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Ability to provide student support and learning and teaching support in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment in participating in quality audit and evaluation research.
  • Demonstrated management, organization skills by displaying evidence of effective communication, resilience/resourcefulness, independence/self-motivation, being collaborative and a team player, flexibility/ability to adapt to and accommodate changing surroundings, working well under pressure and effective stakeholder management.
  • Ability to liaise and network effectively with a range of professionals and establish effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
