About the area
The Safety Directorate at UWA is committed to advancing a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment for all staff, students, and partners. Tasked with overseeing compliance with the Western Australia Work Health and Safety Act 2020, this team plays a critical role in embedding safety and health considerations into every facet of the University’s operations, supporting UWA’s excellence in education and research.
About the opportunity
- Lead initiatives to develop and continuously improve UWA’s Safety Management System (SMS).
- Provide expert guidance to University leaders on identifying and mitigating local safety risks.
- Drive the implementation of UWA’s WHS Strategic Plan, undertaking safety audits to ensure best practices.
About you
- Tertiary qualification in occupational safety and health, science, health, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent competency.
- In-depth understanding of workplace safety principles and legislation.
- Experience in implementing and maintaining safety management systems with the ability to navigate complex safety challenges.
- Able to effectively consult, coach, and guide stakeholders across the university to support a cohesive safety culture.
- Lead Auditor in Work Health and Safety and/or Incident Investigation certification (e.g., ICAM or Tap Root) are highly desirable.
Special Requirements
- Current “C” class driver’s licence
- Occasional travel within the state may be required
- Some afterhours work may be required
- Current National Police Clearance Certificate
