Senior Program Manager (IT)

Job no: 523450
Work type: Full Time
Location: Crawley
Categories: Information Technology

  • Lead a complex, multi‑year application modernisation program across the University
  • Drive high‑velocity parallel delivery with strong program‑level governance and financial discipline
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 2 years, with a potential to extend.
  • Competitive salary package including 17% superannuation

About the area

UWA is embarking on a bold transformation journey, backed by significant investment in Information Technology to accelerate its strategic ambitions. We are harnessing the power of emerging technologies to elevate our teaching, research, and operational capabilities — creating smarter services, richer experiences, and innovative solutions for our community.

The Application Modernisation Program (AMP) is an enduring, multi‑year program that provides dedicated funding and delivery capability to remediate, modernise, and de‑risk critical application systems that cannot be effectively addressed through business‑as‑usual operations alone. The program enables parallel delivery across multiple domains while maintaining strong governance, assurance, and financial control.

About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Program Manager to lead the Application Modernisation Program, a complex portfolio comprising multiple concurrent delivery streams, specialist resources, and high‑risk initiatives.

You will work in close partnership with Technical System Owners and their teams, ensuring priorities are well understood, scoped, planned, delivered and transitioned to operations and benefits realised.

You will establish and maintain strong program‑level governance, oversee financial management of a multi‑million‑dollar budget, manage dependencies and risks across parallel delivery streams, and provide clear, evidence‑based reporting to executive and governance forums.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Overall accountability for scope, schedule, budget, benefits, risks, and dependencies across the program
  • Define and maintain a coherent annual roadmap of initiatives including prioritisation, sequencing, and dependencies.
  • Establish and maintain program governance, controls, and reporting aligned to Uni IT delivery frameworks
  • Financial management including forecasting, accruals, cost controls, and budget change management

About you

You are a highly organised and pragmatic Program Manager with strong experience delivering complex IT programs, particularly in environments with significant technical stakeholder engagement and operational dependency.

You will have:

  • A Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline such as STEM, Business, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Formal program or project management certification (e.g. MSP, PRINCE2, PMP), or equivalent experience applying structured delivery frameworks and portfolio management practices.
  • Proven track record delivering large, complex digital or application‑focused programs, ideally over 5–10 years, including governance, financial management, and benefits realisation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi‑stream delivery portfolios with shared specialist resources
  • Strong financial management capability, including forecasting, cost control, and executive reporting

Desirable:

  • Experience in higher education or large, complex public‑sector environments
  • Experience delivering application modernisation, remediation, or legacy risk‑reduction programs
  • Familiarity with portfolio management frameworks and PPM tools

Note: Employment checks will include information on gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and related misconduct to meet legal obligations. A current National Police Clearance will be required by the successful applicant. Some after‑hours work may be required to support critical delivery milestones.
