Student Engagement Officer

  • Part-time (0.733 FTE) appointment on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
  • This role is Monday – Friday, 5.5 hours per day, based at Claremont Campus.
  • Base salary range: $83,212 – $92,231 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

The Centre for English Language Teaching (UWA CELT), part of the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement), delivers high-quality English language programs to international students. The Centre plays a critical role in advancing global engagement strategies and enhancing the University’s international reputation through student-focused services and programs.

About the opportunity

  • Support the design and delivery of engaging student experience programs including orientation, events, and graduation activities to foster connection, participation, and belonging.
  • Contribute to student wellbeing initiatives, including providing pastoral care and monitoring support for under 18 international students in line with compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and the broader community to deliver impactful student engagement activities and enhance the overall international student experience.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in student services, higher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting student engagement, wellbeing, or pastoral care initiatives, ideally within an international education context.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create engaging content and build relationships across diverse student groups.
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate events, and meet deadlines.
  • Cultural awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by international students, with sound judgement and professionalism when handling sensitive matters.

Note: Employment checks will include information on gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and related misconduct to meet legal obligations. A Working with Children Check, and “C” class driver’s licence will be required by the successful applicant. The role may also include occasional weekend work and some after-hours work. Events include organising activities such as student lunches, hosting student BBQs and pizza parties.
