About the area
The Microelectronics Research Group (MRG) at The University of Western Australia undertakes fundamental and applied research into advanced microelectronic, optoelectronic, and photonic materials, devices and systems. The MRG is one of Australia's largest and most respected semiconductor electronics research groups. The position is required for a multi-disciplinary research laboratory focused on Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) growth and cleanroom vacuum equipment servicing. The work area will include lab and personnel organization in support of ANFF-WA. It involves extensive time in the ANFF-WA MBE lab, cleanroom and workshop. An attractive retention bonus may be offered to high quality candidates.
About the opportunity
- Provides routine technical support for MBE growth, material characterisation, and maintenance of cleanroom and vacuum equipment under close supervision.
- Assists with substrate preparation, sample handling, growth parameter adjustments, and post‑growth characterisation using established procedures.
- Performs basic maintenance of MBE and vacuum systems, supports cleanroom workshop activities, and adheres to safety and operational guidelines.
About you
- Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated experience in technical roles involving semiconductor thin film epitaxy growth, vacuum equipment manufacturing and/or servicing.
- Well-developed planning skills and capability in the allocation of resources.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently under general direction.
- Experience in using MBE to grow thin film semiconductor material.
