Consumer and Community Involvement Coordinator

  • Play a key role in shaping how health and medical research is shaped and guided by embedding the voice of consumers and community.
  • Work at the interface of researchers, clinicians and community, building meaningful partnerships and contributing to research that has tangible impact on health outcomes across Western Australia.
  • Part-time appointment (1 x 0.8 FTE but can be considered as 2 x 0.4FTE) on a fixed term basis until 31 December 2026 with the possibility to extend.
  • Base salary range: $95,231 – $100,643 p.a. (pro rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The WA Health Translation Network (WAHTN) works with the Universities, Medical Research Institutes, the State Government, Health Service Boards, the Private Hospital sector, PathWest and allied health professionals in WA to drive local, national and international collaborations, to build capacity in key areas of health and medical research. WAHTN is an accredited NHMRC Research Translation Centre and a member of the Australian Health Research Alliance (AHRA).

The Consumer and Community Involvement Program (CCI Program) is a key enabling platform of WAHTN that supports the health and innovation sector to ensure community and consumers are informing and being involved in research. The CCI Program’s vision is improving lives by ensuring the community’s voice is heard and understood in informing health research; and CCI Program’s mission is enabling consumer and community involvement in health research by supporting and connecting community with researchers, partners and policy makers.

The UWA provides HR and financial support to the WAHTN in its role as Centre Agent for the Partners.

The WAHTN Offices are located in the Harry Perkins Institute North Building on the QEII Campus. CCI Coordinators may be based at Universities or Medical Research Institutes they are supporting as well as the WAHTN Offices.

About the opportunity 

  • Coordinate and support activities in the WAHTN Partner Organisation/s to implement, support, and resource best practice research that involves consumers with lived experience.
  • Work collaboratively with the CCI Program Team to support and facilitate consumer and community involvement activities and events within the Partner Organisation/s to inform research.
  • Liaise with the CCI Program Team regarding consumer/community research Involvement Opportunities for promotion to the CCI Program’s website, membership and network.

About you 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and/or experience in consumer and community involvement principles and practice.
  • Strong understanding of the importance of ‘lived experience’ in health and innovation research and teaching programs.
  • Highly developed presentation and facilitation skills and competent public speaker.
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative in applying established guidelines and processes and work productively as part of a team.

Note: Employment checks will include information on gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and related misconduct to meet legal obligations. A “C” class driver’s licence will be required by the successful applicant. Some after-hours work may be required to support CCI Program events.
