The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Indigenous provides strategic leadership for Indigenous education, student success, workforce development, research and engagement across UWA. The Indigenous Portfolio is committed to leading positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, advancing Indigenous knowledges, and supporting Indigenous students to thrive throughout their university journey.

Working within the Indigenous Student Centre, you will be part of a passionate and collaborative team focused on delivering high-quality, culturally responsive support services that enhance student engagement, retention and academic success.

About the opportunity

  • Lead and coordinate Indigenous student support services, including academic support, student engagement, wellbeing initiatives, pastoral care and retention programs across all areas of study.
  • Oversee the delivery of the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS), evaluate student outcomes, and drive continuous improvement through evidence-based service design and operational excellence.
  • Build strong relationships across the University, providing expert advice on Indigenous student support and contributing to strategic initiatives that enhance the Indigenous student experience.

About you

  • Demonstrated experience delivering student support, engagement, retention or success programs, ideally within higher education, community services or Indigenous-focused environments.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and proven ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in a culturally safe and respectful manner.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide advice, influence outcomes and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Highly developed organisational, planning and problem-solving skills, with experience managing complex enquiries, competing priorities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with substantial subsequent experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and demonstrated expertise, including experience leading operational activities and supervising staff.

A current WA Working with Children Check, and “C” class driver’s licence will be required by the successful applicant.
