About the area

The Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre (IOMRC) is a collaboration that brings together four of Australia's leading research organisations working in and around the Indian Ocean:

UWA Oceans Institute

The collaboration includes the development of multi-disciplinary IOMRC collaborative research initiatives that will significantly advance Australia's marine science capacity, capability, and profile.

About the opportunity

  • Provide operational and technical support to facilitate the safe and efficient delivery of research activities within IOMRC shared facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Operations Coordinator in a multi-agency environment, standardise practices, maintain technical readiness, and support the effective use of laboratory, aquaculture, and technical spaces.
  • Contribute to compliance with safety and operational standards and assist in the coordination of daily facility activities.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a scientific, environmental, or technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting laboratory, aquaculture, or marine research operations in regulated, multi-user environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marine park access protocols, water discharge requirements, environmental monitoring obligations, and approvals related to marine research activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with the operation, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance of scientific equipment, aquaculture life-support systems, and research instrumentation.
  • Sound knowledge of safety legislation, environmental regulations, biosecurity protocols, and Dangerous Goods frameworks.
