About the area

The School of Indigenous Studies sits within the Office of the Pro Vice‑Chancellor Indigenous Education and provides leadership in Indigenous education, research and engagement across the University of Western Australia.

The Berndt Museum is UWA’s principal collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and cultural material and is recognised internationally for its research significance, including items listed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. The Museum also holds important Asia‑Pacific collections and supports teaching, research, exhibitions and community engagement.

About the opportunity

  • As Registrar, you will provide high‑level technical expertise to support the care, documentation, movement and display of the Berndt Museum’s collections and exhibitions.
  • Working under the general direction of the Collections Manager, you will coordinate collection management activities, oversee loans and exhibitions logistics, and ensure best‑practice museum standards are met across storage, handling, digitisation and documentation.
  • You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, support Indigenous research initiatives, and supervise and train staff, interns and volunteers involved in collections and exhibition work.

About you

  • Substantial experience as a registrar or in collections management within a museum, gallery, archive or similar collecting institution
  • Demonstrated knowledge of museum registration systems, collection documentation, loans management and exhibition logistics
  • Proven ability to manage object handling, transport, storage and display in line with professional museum standards
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with Indigenous communities, researchers and stakeholders
  • Well‑developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
