Dangerous Goods Store Technical Assistant

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of UWA’s Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances Store.
  • Work in a specialised facility supporting a wide range of University teaching and research activities.
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed-term basis until December 24, 2027.
  • Base salary range: $77,205 – $82,011 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

College Services provides academic administration and technical support services to the University’s schools, including Heads of School, academic staff and research students. The team is committed to providing effective and efficient services in support of the Schools’ and University’s strategic objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement and best practice.

Technical Services provides practical and technical support for UWA’s teaching and research activities. The team works collaboratively with academic and professional staff to support safe, effective and compliant operations across laboratories, workshops, fieldwork and other specialist facilities.

The Workshops and Operations Platform includes the University’s workshops and cross-University resources such as the Crawley Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances Store.

About the opportunity

  • Reporting to the Manager, Safety and Operations, you will provide practical and administrative assistance to support the safe day-to-day operation of the Crawley Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances Store.
  • You will assist with receiving, checking, storing, picking, packing and distributing chemicals and other goods in accordance with established procedures. You will also support stock control, record keeping, housekeeping, waste handling and routine safety checks within the facility.
  • This position will work closely with other Dangerous Goods Store staff and provide helpful and responsive service to academics, technical staff, students, suppliers and delivery personnel.

About you

To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

  • Completion of a relevant qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency gained through relevant experience.
  • Relevant practical experience in a store, warehouse, laboratory, technical or similar operational environment.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and safe work practices.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to complete routine tasks accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic to intermediate computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email and online systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate stock, delivery and operational records.
  • Ability to undertake practical duties, including the safe movement and handling of goods.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and provide a professional service to customers.
  • A willingness to undertake training relevant to dangerous goods, hazardous substances and safe manual handling.

Note: Employment checks will include information on gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and related misconduct to meet legal obligations. A “C” class driver’s licence will be required by the successful applicant. There may also be some after-hours work as required.
